We live in a village called Gooseberry Hill which is located in the Darling Ranges in Western Australia. The Darling Range is a low escarpment running north-south to the east of the Coastal Plain and Perth, Western Australia. Gooseberry Hill is approximately 35 minutes from Perth City and a 25 minute drive to Perth International Airport. There is a French Café and an Italian Restaurant, a short walk from Acacia Cottage. Kalamunda is the local town and is a 20 minute walk along the Old Railway Heritage Trail from Acacia Cottage, or a 5 minute trip on the bus or in a car. Kalamunda has many facilities including a swimming pool and water slides, cafes, restaurants, takeaways, taverns, hair dressers, post office, newsagent, churches and supermarkets.There is also a Farmer’s Market every Sunday morning selling fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables and a monthly Saturday arts and craft market

BIBULMUN WALK TRAIL:
This is a world famous 1,003 kilometre walk in West Australia from Kalamunda to Albany and can be accessed easily from Acacia Cottage. You can hike sections of the walk (one day/ one week), accompanied by guides from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, or walk the whole way. There is basic overnight accommodation and cooking facilities on the track.
MAGNIFICENT BEACHES:
You can visit some of the beautiful beaches in Western Australia. Optional activities can be arranged, such as snorkelling, surfing, kite boarding, kayaking and jet skiing. Alternatively you can swim in the Indian Ocean or cycle along the many pathways.
FREMANTLE:
West Australia’s port of Fremantle lies at the mouth of the Swan River, approximately 40 minutes from Acacia Cottage. Many of the heritage buildings in Fremantle, built from local limestone, were constructed by the early settlers in the 1800s. Fremantle Harbour is the entrance point for the many container ships, cruise ships, ferries and leisure craft that berth at the port.
ROTTNEST ISLAND:
Rottnest Island is 19 kilometres off the coast of Perth City and can be accessed by ferry. The beaches and marine life are some of the finest in the world. There are magnificent coastal tracks which can be accessed by bicycle or walking. The friendly, West Australian Quokka lives on Rottnest Island and is very popular with tourists.
